Case Study - MRI Unit Extraction from Meriter Hospital
A 27,000-lb. MRI unit had to be removed from the second floor. Our experienced crew has done this before. The procedure is not simple. Here's where the problems starts: We had to minimize the weight on the driveway, so the crib had to be constructed in a way in which the majority of the weight had to be placed on the column heads below. We then had to remove an 8,000 lb. piece of precast panel from the building to gain access to the second floor. We placed a 15,000 lb. capacity forktruck onto the crib and then removed the panel. The crib was then built up to the second floor's level and the MRI was rolled out. Once clear from the building, we had to jack it down about two feet, so it would be low enough to fit under an overhang. Once out, it was put on a trailer with a crane. The crib was partially removed and the forktruck was placed on the crib to replace the precast panel. Once again, we moved large pieces of equipment in the tightest of situations, as we have been competently doing since 1888!
